JEE results

With the JEE results announced yesterday, I get a lot of emails asking about branches that can be chosen etc. I suggest you read the best counseling advice here.

Some of you have asked about the UG admission in IISc. The first round of offers were made last week based on KVPY. All KVPY (SA/SX/SB) in non-GN categories and all from KVPY (SA/SB) and many from KVPY-SX in GN were offered.  In the current batch of students, most of the GN students are KVPY fellows though they have also qualified in JEE. The cutoff for the GN category based on JEE will always be high in IISc because only sixty seats are available for the GN category and most of them are filled by KVPY fellows.

If anyone is getting science streams at IITB, IITK for their JEE ranks Please dont join IISc. IISc neither makes a man out of a UG student nor a world class Theoretical Physicist.

The above comment is ridiculous. I am a current student of the BS programme of IISc and it is absolutely great. Further, I can choose whatever branch I want after the third semester.

I had secured 3700 rank in JEE and I could not have got Materials in IITs but I am sure to get it in IISc.

I have applied to the BS programme through KVPY and JEE. My KVPY SX rank is around 400 and JEE rank of around 4000.

will I get admission?

I like your blog very much and can you write more about fun activities in IISc.

Science in a general sense for IITians doesnot include Material Science. Material Science is a fake subject(farji) being popped up in every college including IISc where Metallurgy Department was renamed.

IISc is the greenest toilet in Bangalore. If you want to pursue UG here you are most welcome!!

The status of next set of offers for KVPY -SX will be known only after the first counseling session and payment of fees.

Based on last year's experience, JEE cutoff is likely to be much higher than 4000.

The Materials department in IISc is much better than the metallurgy and other material departments in IITs.

It would be great of KRK to enlighten the readers of this blog by revealing his authority on Materials Science to declare it as *farji* subject so that the readers do not take him lightly and do not reject him as a self-proclaimed prophet.

If you loose interest after joining UG @ IISc, I bet you will not get a job even at BHILAI STEEL PLANT

If you loose enthu at IIT, atleat you can landup in ZS associates, Deloitte,PWC, etc

Asking Giridhar to write about fun activities in IISc is like asking the Eskimo the color of the tree..he has no clue what a tree is nor does he know anything about the color green.

At UG level teachers role is 20%. Rest is Hostel life, learning from peers.

So it would be foolish to join IISc where you have old people and bhayya bhabis

Unfortunately the last comment is extremely sad but true.
Undergrad is all about becoming a real man.
You can get the best education at IISC but you will not learn about life.
I am telling this from my personal experience. I was the institute topper at my IIT. I entered my IIT as a child and left as a confused adult. After suffering a serious burn out, I am back on track.
I do not regret my actions and I absolutely love my IIT, but I feel that I could have been better off by thinking more about my life, and less about cramming up stuff.
Undergrad is much more than getting to study your favorite subject. You currently have no idea of the beautiful things in life and in academia. Please do not think that physics or computer science is your life. You may end up learning statistics or becoming a community organizer. Just work hard and enjoy life.

My Experience

After JEE result, that summer I read Wings of Fire and thought that i would specialize in thermodynamics and rocket science. But after joining iit I encountered a fine prof on Dynamics and Kinematics and I left rocket engineering. Life is just a box of chocolates.

Just join IIT and settle down first. Rest is destiny.
