New students

I have put together a small writeup for new students joining IISc this august. Usual disclaimers apply.

Update: The admission office called me and informed me that some students are requesting clarifications for some statements provided in the above link. Please do not do so. They are unaware of this information and IISc is not responsible for its accuracy. If you need anything specific, please write it in the comments. Thank you.

autos are Rs 8.50/9.00 per km not 7, :D. just thought ill add this as students may end up fighting with the auto drivers for overcharging :D

hello sir,

my name is Abhishek, i completed my b.tech from nit Surathkal in mechanical eng. last year. i wrote gate this year in XE paper (with 2 mechanical engg. related subjects) and got an air-8. i wanted to apply for iisc but for some reasons (personal) didn't apply.

sir, my question is, can i apply to iisc next year with this same gate score ? (because i read that gate scores are valid for 2 years). also will my chances be less of getting selected if i apply with one year previous score or should i re-write gate ? what do you suggest sir, please reply...

also, if the train halts at yeshwantpur railway station get down at yeshwantpur and not at city railway station(majestic). from yeshwatpur railway station iisc is at a walkable distance of 1 km(auto is optional). just ask the locals for direction to tata institute.

Sir,

Thank you for the detailed information. It is really helpful. My queries :
(1) As I am married, I plan to bring in my family as well, once I finalize a house nearby IISc. So when I come to join on 27th, would I be permitted to use the hostel facility for a couple of weeks? Or alternatively are temporary stays allowed in IISc guest houses for students? I am worried that I will have to pay a lot of money for the external lodging arrangement.
(2) Can I get my kid [ two and half years] admitted in the IISc nursery once my family joins me?
