Admissions 2012

The website for admissions 2012 is now open.

Aspirants for the UG (BS) programme can start applying from today (Feb 1) while aspirants for PG (M.Sc(Engg), Ph.D, M.E, M.Tech, MBA, MDes etc.) can start applying from Feb 6. The key difference from last year is that no offline applications will be entertained for both UG and PG. Everything will be online. The offer letters will also be online and the fees to be paid on joining will be also online.

The admission criteria for each program is clearly spelled out in the information brochure. Please read through it carefully. The cutoff marks in JEE/AIEEE etc. for applying to the BS program is mentioned. The last year cutoff marks in GATE etc to be called for interview for the Ph.D program is mentioned and use this as a guideline. Emails to me regarding this year cutoffs will not help because cutoffs are decided by the number of students applying.

This year, GATE is written by 9 lakh students. The scanned copy of the OMR (answer sheet) of each student, the marks of each student and the cut offs for qualification in GATE will be put online. Similarly, for IISc admissions, the cutoffs at each stage (if there are multiple lists) will be put online. While it will be ensured that this will be done as soon as possible, it can not be done earlier than possible because lists have to be approved by competent authority. Emails and phone calls to me will not help.

Respected sir,
I don't know why you removed my comments from 2 of your posts but i seriously want to know whether the ranks of kvpy-sx 2011 are declared only of the shortlisted candidates or all the candidates.when will they be declared??

I removed your comment because it was posted under topics that had nothing to do with admissions.

Regarding KVPY, ask the KVPY office. IISc admission office has nothing to with KVPY fellowships.

Thanks a lot sir for replying.I am aspiring to join the iisc ug programme and one of the channels of admission is through kvpy and it says that if a student appeared in kvpy-sx in 2011 can apply and UPDATE the rank when it will be declared. I was not shortlisted for the interview held in january and lost out on it by just 2 marks. Therefore i wanted to know if i stand any chance of qualifying through it. I can't find about kvpy ranks on net as well.so is asking the kvpy office the only way?

If you do not qualify through KVPY-SX, you are not eligible for the UG program through the KVPY route.

Sir,

Going by the previous year's cut-off ranks for JEE/AIEEE for admission, candidates will have to score way higher than the cut-off marks anyways...

Giri@iisc said...

The cutoff marks for applying are based on around 10,000 rank for JEE/AIEEE.

The cutoff rank for JEE/AIEEE for admission was around 500 last year.

The marks for GN category and they are scaled based on SC ruling.

if i did not qualify for kvpy sx then can i get admision through iit or aieee or is it compulsary to pass in kvpy

Giri@iisc said...

KVPY/AIEEE/JEE/AIPMT all are valid modes of entry.

you have to pass atleast in one of them to be eligible.

samphysicst said...

when can i start regestiring online because they are asking for 12 marks and other entrance marks

Giri@iisc said...

Read the instructions for filling up the form.

samphysicst said...

sir sorry to disturb i want to know if i get around 200 - 220 marks in jee am i eligable for admission

iitmsriram said...

@samphysicst, 200-220 from which year JEE? If you got that much in JEE 2011, your rank would be over 10,000 (for general category candidate) and that would not be enough even for applying. WIth the same score in JEE 2010, the rank would have been in the 5000 - 7500 range and from JEE 2009, in the 3500 - 5500 range; these would be enough to apply, but not enough to get admission at IISc, going by past trend of closing at around rank 500.

The eligibility criteria is clearly mentioned here

http://www.iisc.ernet.in/ug/select.htm

You are just asking questions without even reading the website.

Dear Sir,
What are the details that a typical gate score card will have. What is the difference between gate score, gate marks, percentile and AIR(All India Rank) and which of the above criteria will be considered for admission in IITs and IISc.
Thank you...

Hello sir,
I have give GATE 2012 (EC) exam. And I have one question that in in EC paper that is not a clear data on paper. It have two meaning in question. What should I do. Question is as follow:

The magnetic field along the propagation direction inside a rectangular
waveguide with the cross section shown in the figure is
Hz=3cos(2.094*10^2 x)cos(2.618*10^2 y)cos(6.283*10^10 t−Bz)
y|
|_____
1.3cm| |
|_____|____x
3cm
The phase velocity Vf of the wave inside the waveguide satisfies
(A) Vp>c (B) Vp=c (C) 0c.

(d)Vp=0.

In that question If Waveguide filling material is not given.
So if Wave guide is AIR filled that Vp=0.
But if other than It may be Vp>c.

thank you Sir...

Respected sir,
I want to inform you that GATE 2012 EC paper is one of the toughest of paper.Even 1 marks question which can be easily solved are hard to solve in this case. Also, I want to point out one more thing that subject wise distribution of questions are also not as it were in earlier 4-5 year's GATE papers. If one sees previous years papers he will observe some sort of regularity in distribution but in this year's paper, its hard to see. My point here is not to blame anyone for anything, but this is what I feel, rather most of the EC students.I know students have nothing to do with kind of paper that is set, but whenever one prepares for it passionately, then I think, he has to think about these things also..what is your opinion Sir?

Sir,

Does IISc filter the applications for its research programmes (in engineering after B.Tech) only on the basis of GATE score cut-off or do they relax the cut-off if the applicant has qualified GATE and has other proven research records ?

Respected Sir,
I am a chemical engineer working in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. While in preparation for a promotion interview, I appeared in GATE-2012 just out of curiosity. I'm expecting around 36 marks only. Can I apply for PhD? I'm very much interested in serious research activities.

Sir

I am confident of securing a admission in IISc M.E. Chem Engg this year. I am very curious about the research. Since I was in job for a year and a half, I feel i want to be involved in some project before joining IISc. I am ready to bear the cost for stay at the campus. I sincerely request to grant me a opportunity to work in some project for some months before I join the course program

Kindly let me know about the placement scenario in chemical engg in IISc.
Reading your earlier posts i feel placements were not good.
