ORCID

ORCID, the Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is an initiative that seeks to remedy the systemic name ambiguity problems seen in scholarly research by assigning unique identifiers linkable to an individual's research output.

In the near future, researchers will be able to link their Scopus ID and Researcher ID to the ORCID profile. I believe by the end of 2013, all major publishers will require authors to link their ORCID profile when submitting papers to a journal.

The editorial in Nature reads,

when scientists and their patrons see the practical benefits of ORCID, it will become the de facto standard author identifier in research, much as the digital object identifier (DOI) has become for papers and data.

Of what use is this post? It affects only who publish and thus not a majority of Indian researchers.

Instead post on salaries and increments that can be obtained and all Indian researchers will respond..

Above comment justifies the state of Indian academia and research. What a negative thought process?

Well, instead of calling it negative, why do you not acknowledge the truth?

Despite ORCID being around, how many Indian researchers have registered there? How many have researcherid?

Contrast this to a post by Prof. Giri which will indicate a rule change in LTC benefits in IISc. Surprisingly, he has not written about that..

LC, agree with you. Look under the other thread on prospective faculty..young faculty there indicates that publication has no value and one should work slowly like the old professors !!

Ankur,

It is easy to call me a troll. Instead, why do not you answer the questions by LC??

Profs in IISc/IIT have given their sweat and blood to the country and yet are given a raw deal in terms of salaries. I see no harm in people showing more interests on posts regarding salaries. Salaries of profs must be made 3 to 4 times of what is presently is.

Could not understand the difference between ORCID and ResearcherID.

Are these two same things from different organizations?
