IISc admission 2013 updates

Subsequent to the expose of the manipulation (okay, moderation) of marks in CBSE and ICSE, I have received many emails asking whether board marks will play any role in the admissions to IISc. This is understandable because NITs and IITs do consider these marks for their admission.

The answer is NO. For the UG program, the admission is based on KVPY, JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced) and NEET. For the PG M.E. program, the admission is based on GATE. For the Ph.D program, it is based purely on marks obtained in the research interview.

The admission to the UG program through KVPY, JEE (Main) and NEET has been completed and the offer letters were emailed yesterday. The cutoffs for various streams are mentioned here. I am aware of the very high cutoffs for the program. As the director of IISc puts it, "More recently, the introduction of a four year Bachelor’s degree in science, using the widely discussed but rarely implemented flexible course structure, with the primary aim of providing research exposure at undergraduate level, is an experiment..." This experiment has been hugely successful due to the faculty involved in the program.

The admission to the Ph.D program has been completed and the offers letters will be emailed by June 17. The last date to pay the fees will be June 26. The candidates can withdraw till June 30. The waitlist will then be operated in the first week of July.

sir,in my profile it still says interview call letter sent. does this mean i have been rejected or there is still a chance that i am in the waiting list?

Hello Sir,

Is ERP results also declared?

Sir,
Cutoff for UG admission (BS) under NEET category for General may be
fixed at 60% score in NEET. We heard that last year only one student from AIPMT Category joined UG Programme. Normally students from AIPMT or NEET categories prefer to join Medicine course. So please encourage others by fixing realistic cutoffs for NEET category and 60% score in a National entrance can be considered good and can be given a chance. Pl. consider

Sir,
First I would like to give you a big thanks for operating such a nice blog.I did get a lot of interesting and useful information about IISc from this blog.
Now Sir, I am a selected candidate for Integrated PhD. Can you please give some detail about allotment of hostels after we arrive at IISc? What is the process, I mean is it allotted on first come first serve basis or through a lottery? And as a research student I hope to get a single occupancy room, but I know about some of my seniors who in the last year were kept in sharing accommodation for one complete semester. Can you please tell what is going to happen this year?
P.S- Though tried I didn't receive any communication from admission office regarding hostel.

In UG admissions@ IISc the cut-off rank for JEE is very high say 884 in 2011 and subsequently it scaled towards lower numbers i.e. 500 etc but a higher preference is given to KVPY fellows. Mostly, all the KVPY fellows who apply receive a call letter.
What is the basis for these cut-off limits?

Sir, In the UG program website it is mentioned as
"Please note that participation in the counselling session is mandatory for confirming your seat in the BS programme."

May I know what are the process generally do you follow during counseling session. Do you reject any candidate during counseling, provided all the documents are in order.

Thank you Sir, I have received the offer letter on July 5th, but it asks me to send my original GATE score card. However, no address of communication is mentioned to which it has to be sent. I have sent a mail to the email id mentioned in the letter, but there has been no response so far.

You have to mail to

Assistant Registrar (Academic), IISc, BLR-12.

In the 'forms to be filled' email sent by the academic section, there is a pdf attached which states the UGC regulations related to ragging. It would be of great help if you let me know what is to be done with that file.

Respected Sir,
I have applied for GATE-2014,and intend to M.E(CSE)/M.Sc.(CSE).
I have done BE(CSE) from REC,Trichy(Now NIT),in 2000.Due to a medical problem in my UG, my academics are low (59%), but my understanding of concepts is good. I have around 8 years of industry experience. I am in IT now. Is there any possibility of doing either ME or MS in IISc , part time. based the information about part time , I will apply for both full time and part time. I wish to complete PhD also, and become a professor. The main reason , I am inquiring for part time is, my financials. even though i know, the time to complete the course may increase.Presently I'm 38. Back in 2009 , I tried M.Tech(Clinical Eng.)(full time)(with stipend) in IIT Madras. but I couldn't follow biology and came back after 3 months, completing all the required formalities.
I wrote GATE in 1999, not qualified. in 2002 , 85.5 percentile , in 2003 , 96 percentile , in 2009 , 93 percentile. i worked in BSNL for one year , got selected as Computer Officer (PO) in Punjab National Bank , but was not able to join because of my medical problem,of 1996, recurring again in 2004.
