Congratulations

to my colleagues,Dr Kaushal Verma and Prof. N. Ravishankar for winning the Swarnajayanthi award of DST. Ravishankar and I have collaborated on many research papers and continue to have joint students and projects. I am very delighted to know that he has won the award this year. Congratulations again.

Congratulations to both of them. I have heard that Prof. N. Ravishankar is an excellent teacher, researcher, and mentor of students.

Unfortunately, like Giridhar, Ravishankar is not respected within his own department but liked by everyone else !

If you are very successful, you are not liked by traditionalists unless you do chamchagiri. That is the price you have to pay.

Some of the comments are off topic but it really makes me wonder. I assume that they were made by academics in the dept and that they might have some truth, irrespective of how irrelevant it was to the original post. To the anon who made the comment: I am curious to understand why you would think that respect in ones dept is so important ? Is not doing one's work well the primary goal ?

It happens that I know Prof. Ravishankar (as well as all faculty at MRC) and he is a very respected teacher, researcher, and human being. Thereby my only conclusion here is that these comments are being made by:
1) some "smart" student (and here is the fun part of imagining how "smart" this guy is)
2) somebody trying to create havoc here (who forgot that Prof. Madras can easily see who visits his site).

So, Anon September 22, 2010 1:00 AM, these comments are NOT being made by any fellow faculty.

Most probably we are having again 1-2 trolls around the blog.

"Prof. Madras can easily see who visits his site)."

I do not think so. Even if he installed something like statcounter or something similar, one can trace the IP address of only the last 500 users. So, he can not trace it after a day because this blog gets visits of nearly 500-600 per day.

But I agree with you that these are trolls..or flamers?
